Introduction

The Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) on 1st January 2017 under the provisions of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013.

The scheme provides financial assistance to pregnant and lactating mothers to:

👩 Eligibility Criteria

The scheme primarily targets socially and economically disadvantaged women, including:

  1. Women belonging to SC/ST categories
  2. Women who are partially (40%) or fully disabled (Divyang)
  3. Women holding a BPL ration card
  4. Beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY)
  5. Women holding an e-Shram card
  6. Women farmers under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi
  7. Women holding MGNREGA job cards
  8. Women with family income less than ₹8 lakh per annum
  9. Pregnant and lactating women (including AWWs, AWHs, ASHAs)
  10. Any other category as prescribed by the Government


Note: Women employed in government/public sector or already receiving similar maternity benefits are not eligible

This also promotes gender equality and discourages female foeticide.

💵 Installment Details

First Installment – ₹3,000

Second Installment – ₹2,000

📄 Registration Process

To avail benefits, the beneficiary must:

  1. Register at the nearest Anganwadi Centre (AWC)
  2. Fill and submit Form 1-A with required documents
  3. Provide:
    • Aadhaar Number
    • Mobile Number
    • Bank/Post Office account details
  4. Submit documents with consent and verification
