
Introduction
The Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) on 1st January 2017 under the provisions of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013.

The scheme provides financial assistance to pregnant and lactating mothers to:
- Improve health and nutrition
- Provide compensation for wage loss
- Encourage institutional care and safe motherhood
🎯 Objectives of PMMVY
- To provide cash incentives for partial compensation of wage loss
- To ensure adequate rest before and after delivery
- To improve health-seeking behaviour among women
- To promote positive behaviour towards the girl child
👩 Eligibility Criteria
The scheme primarily targets socially and economically disadvantaged women, including:
- Women belonging to SC/ST categories
- Women who are partially (40%) or fully disabled (Divyang)
- Women holding a BPL ration card
- Beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY)
- Women holding an e-Shram card
- Women farmers under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi
- Women holding MGNREGA job cards
- Women with family income less than ₹8 lakh per annum
- Pregnant and lactating women (including AWWs, AWHs, ASHAs)
- Any other category as prescribed by the Government
❗Note: Women employed in government/public sector or already receiving similar maternity benefits are not eligible

💰 Benefits Under the Scheme
- Benefit is available for the first two living children
➤ For First Child:
- ₹5,000 provided in two instalments
➤ For Second Child (if girl):
- ₹6,000 provided in one instalment after birth
This also promotes gender equality and discourages female foeticide.
💵 Installment Details
First Installment – ₹3,000
- On registration of pregnancy
- At least one antenatal check-up within 6 months
Second Installment – ₹2,000
- After childbirth registration
- Child has received first cycle of vaccination (BCG, OPV, DPT, Hepatitis-B or equivalent)
📄 Registration Process
To avail benefits, the beneficiary must:
- Register at the nearest Anganwadi Centre (AWC)
- Fill and submit Form 1-A with required documents
- Provide:
- Aadhaar Number
- Mobile Number
- Bank/Post Office account details
- Submit documents with consent and verification

⚠️ Important Guidelines
- Benefits are provided only on Aadhaar basis to avoid duplication
- In case of miscarriage/stillbirth, the woman can reapply in future pregnancy
- Registration during pregnancy is mandatory for second child benefit
